Monitor cutworms
Shelley Barkley, insect technologist with Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation, says there have been some reports of cutworm activity in winter wheat in the southeast corner of the province as well as a field of 2023 seeded forage in the Calgary area. The cutworms that overwinter as larvae are hangry this time of year and look for tasty green vegetation to dine on. It is important to scout now for cutworms.
