Project lead:
Dr. Tim McAllister, Principal Research Scientist, Ruminant Nutrition and Microbiology, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada – Lethbridge Research Centre

Start Date: January 2014

End Date: December 2014

Alberta Barley’s contribution: $20,000

Summary:
The project aims to develop a comprehensive guide for the barley feed industry that can be used by livestock producers, the feed industry and extension specialists. The guide is being assembled with participation from leading scientists involved in feed barley breeding, barley processing and the use of barley as feed in ruminant, swine, poultry and aquaculture production.

Benefits for farmers:
The guide will serve as a key resource for livestock producers in both domestic and export markets and help those emerging clients who are trying to use barley as a major or alternative feed grain. This will promote feed barley consumption and benefit barley farmers.
