Standing Against US Proposed Tariffs: Team Alberta Crops Advocates for Free Trade

Alberta Grains, alongside our partner organizations across Alberta and Canada, have been working diligently to assess and consult on the impact of  the proposed US tariffs on Canadian agriculture and to ensure the implications of a mounting trade war on farmers and consumers, on both sides of the boarders, are well understood.

An example of our activity includes a joint letter sent from Team Alberta Crops and Alberta livestock groups to Premier Danielle Smith, expressing concerns about the proposed tariffs and their potential harm to Alberta’s agricultural sector. In response, Minister RJ Sigurdson, Alberta’s Minister for Agriculture & Irrigation addressed the issue on behalf of the provincial government through numerous ongoing meetings and roundtables with him and his department. The Minister has acknowledged the seriousness of the tariffs, reaffirmed Alberta’s commitment to resolving the trade dispute, and emphasized the government’s strong support for free trade between Canada and the United States.
