Bill 18: The Provincial Priorities Act, 2024

In late May 2024, the Alberta legislature passed Bill 18 which now requires provincial government approval before provincial entities receive funding from the federal government. Some of the groups impacted include municipalities, universities, school boards and healthcare agencies. Alberta Grains, and other marketing boards and commissions under the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act, are not considered provincial entities according to the Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act and as such are not subject to the Bill.

The Government says there will be stakeholder engagement taking place this summer and the regulations will come to force early 2025. Alberta Grains will monitor for any impacts to farmers in the development of regulations.
