Team Alberta Crops Provincial Outreach
On March 13 and 14, Alberta Grains together with the expanded Team Alberta Crops and held our first annual provincial lobby day and reception on the legislative grounds. Over the two days we held numerous in-person meetings with several high-level government officials including cabinet ministers, senior provincial and federal government officials across several departments and members of the legislative assembly (MLA) across parties and several ridings. With participation from farmers and commission staff we discussed several topics including the pending drought situation in the province, renewable energy development and the recent policy changes, irrigation expansion, transportation and agricultural research and extension.
Team Alberta Crops is a working collaboration established between Alberta Canola, Alberta Pulse and Alberta Grains (previously Alberta Wheat and Barley Commissions) in 2016.
Since then, Team Alberta Crops has expanded to include seven commodity groups, including: Alberta Beekeepers Commission, Alberta-British Columbia Seed Growers, Alberta Sugar Beet Growers and Potatoes Growers of Alberta. The collaboration works under our respective mandates to advance and provide input to policy, regulation and programming in the best interest of the farmers we represent
