Team Alberta Crops Engages Policymakers on Key Ag Issues

On March 19 and 20, 2025, Team Alberta Crops—representing a working collaboration between seven of Alberta’s crop commissions to advocate on behalf of over 21,000 farmers—gathered at the Alberta Legislature for its second annual outreach days to advocate for key policy priorities impacting Alberta’s crop and honey sectors.

Farmer directors and staff met with provincial and federal officials to discuss shared concerns including regulatory efficiency, tariffs and market access, innovation in the sector and value-added processing growth. With Alberta crop and honey exports reaching $6.9 billion in 2024, the group emphasized the need for a science-based, predictable regulatory environment, timely implementation of right-to-repair legislation, and ongoing investment in research and extension services.

Officials were receptive to the unified message, recognizing the value of a coordinated approach, while participating farmers emphasized the effectiveness of speaking with a collective voice.
